- Tanya Whelan
Tanya has been sewing and crafting since childhood, having learned the joys of creativity from the talented women quilters, artists, and crafters in her family, especially her mother. Her love of sewing and the birth of her 3rd child lead her to create a line of children's hats and luxe baby blankets with a vintage sensibility that sold in boutiques on the east and west coasts. The process of sourcing the beautiful fabrics she used in her line eventually evolved into her retail fabric store Flapper Girl Fabrics.
Her store has been featured in magazines such as Country Living, Romantic Homes, and Good Housekeeping as a fabulous source for vintage inspired fabrics. Tanya's desire to see a little bit of the past come back to life for today's quilting, crafting and interiors forms the basis for her design company Grand Revival and her new line, Barefoot Roses for FreeSpirit. Sophisticated, pretty and fresh, with a modern approach to vintage style, Barefoot Roses reflects Tanya's eclectic sensibilities. Tanya has a BA degree in philosophy and lives with her husband and 3 children in the historic city of Norfolk, Virginia.
On any given Saturday, she can be found in a musty corner of a local antiques shop rummaging through piles of textiles searching for the perfect sunny 40's tablecloth, reupholstering a cool old chair found on the curb, or playing on the porch of her 1913 house with her children.
