New Vintage Notions Monthly magazine

bin 3bin 2In her book, Vintage Notions, Amy Barickman, owner of Indygo Junction, shared a small piece of history of her muse Mary Brooks Picken, and the school she founded, The Women’s Institute of Domestic Arts & Sciences.

Mary Brooks Picken is special to us at Coats & Clark, because she was the author of some of our earliest sewing booklets, Sewing Secrets,  after which this blog was named .

In honor of the 100th Anniversary of the Institute this year, Amy will be releasing a series of magazines, Vintage Notions Monthly, which will feature a curated collection of Woman’s Institute materials including:

  • Excerpts from the Institute’s newsletter Inspiration & magazine Fashion Service
  • Vintage fashion illustrations
  • Inspiring stories
  • Sewing lessons & techniques
  • A monthly Magic Pattern – a fashion sewing pattern created from personal measurements instead of pattern pieces.

The sewing lessons, vintage wisdom and beautiful (and fun to color!) illustrations are timeless.

Amy is sharing a special preview of the first issue with Sewing Secrets readers! Click to Preview  Not only will you get the first issue, but you will also receive a BONUS pdf called “What the Institute Means to Me”.
