On the list of gifts you’re busily making, did you remember the handmade dog gifts? We mustn’t forget our faithful furry friends after all! I’ve got a wonderful list of seven easy and useful makes for you to enjoy today. They’ll be fun to personalize and gift to the humans on your list, too. My Terrier, Rosie, was my consultant, so they’re all pre-canine approved!
Hudson’s Handsome Bow Tie Collar
For your faithful one’s formal occasions, add a Bow Tie Collar to your handmade dog gifts. Hudson, always the perfect gentleman, allowed owner Brittaney to share an enjoyable tutorial on her Hudson and Co. blog. Brittaney says anyone that can sew a straight line can make this collar, so it’s a great project for beginners. She cleverly used collar hardware from a disassembled dollar store collar to create this handsome make! Click here for the Bow Tie Collar tutorial.
Roxy’s Designer Bandana & Leash
Rescued Roxy is clearly a rock star who loves the handmade dog gifts made by her mom, blogger Michelle. This fabulous matching set includes an “over the collar” bandana and leash shared on Michelle’s Daydream Believers blog. Supplies are minimal, but be sure to adjust the directions for your dog’s size. It’s an easy make with Michelle’s great instructions and your pooch will be rockin’ their own designer style in no time! Click here for the Bandana and Leash tutorial.
Charlie’s Cozy Bed and Blanket
Every dog loves a good snuggle and a handmade bed is the next best thing to a lap. On the Instructables blog, I found a tutorial for Charlie’s clever canine bed with a removable blanket. Designer danlynn07 is a beginning sewist, so her bed and blanket are simple and easy to assemble. You’ll need sturdy fabrics, stuffing or foam plus hook and loop tape and something soft and cozy for the blanket. Danlynn07 used all recycled materials! Miley and Howie’s Cushy Bumper Pads and Crate Cover
Make your best bud’s crate a warm and welcoming spot with these custom handmade dog gifts. Amanda of the Kevin and Amanda blog wrote clear and detailed instructions for bumper pads to fit a small, medium or large crate. Her post also includes basic directions for a crate cover made from the home décor fabric she suggests. As you can see, Miley and Howie were quite pleased and your pup will be, too. Sebastian’s Upcycle Dog Coat
Out in my area of the Pacific Northwest, a coat is always on any list of useful handmade dog gifts. Erika of the Sew Doggy Style blog created a fabulous upcycle from a man’s wool or flannel shirt that will be fun to sew. As you can see, Sebastian is thrilled! You’ll measure your dog, then create a paper pattern from the measurements and cut the shirt into hound style pieces. Erika’s illustrated photographs are excellent and will make your coat sewing easy. Click here for the Dog Coat tutorial.
Lacey’s Fashionable Fleece Booties
Booties are so fashionable this year, so they‘re a must on the list of handmade dog gifts. Lacey is a fur girl who loves style – especially when it keeps ice from lodging in between her toes! Bribing your best buddy to stand still for paw measuring is the hard part, but it’s all delightful sewing from there. Lisa of the Condo Blues blog was very pleased with the results of her bootie sewing adventure! Her tutorial contains nicely laid out instructions and fabric suggestions for you to follow.
