Most of these are quick enough to make in short sessions while baby naps. Grab a warm beverage, settle in and choose your Onesie!
Awesome Owl Costume
A simple onesie, bits of fabric and a little time will have you hooting with delight when you finish this marvelous Owl Onesie Costume! Jessica from the Cutesy Crafts blog designed this sweet, woodsy costume for babies on the move so they can still crawl easily. You can’t keep a Baby Owl down, you know!
You’ll appreciate Jessica’s PDF feather scallop pattern and the wonderful instructions she provides in her tutorial. Her attention to detail is superb – ruffles on the bum and a feathered breast to match the Baby Owl wings make this such a charming design. If you like, you can add ruffles to the legs of purchased leggings and feathers in your Owl’s hair. Or, instead of hair feathers, spend a little more stitching time and make the Fleece Owl Hat Jessica has linked in her tutorial. I think this would be divine sewn up in all white as an angel costume, too! Click here for the tutorial and prepare to fly high!
Tasty Turkey Costume
Stuff this Turkey Onesie Costume with your favorite bambino and you’ll be ready for Halloween and Thanksgiving both. Holly of the Bits of Everything blog created a super-cute fusible applique turkey that she finished with simple machine stitching. You could have a lot of fun using decorative stitches around the feathers in coordinating or contrasting thread colors, too. Holly’s tutorial includes a Turkey template to download and easy instructions for you to feast on. And, if Thanksgiving dinner is late, no one will care with a cutie like this at the table, right? Oceanic Octopus Costume
Designed for comfort, this eight-legged undersea Octopus Onesie Costume is actually a fabulous upcycle. Taylor of the Taylor Made Creates blog combined a short sleeve onesie and long baby-size pants with a man’s t-shirt for an aquatic critter sure to make you smile. Taylor cleverly tie-dyed all three items so they would coordinate, if not exactly match. Although it looks complicated, this is a super-simple make and Taylor’s tutorial walks you through it in quick, easy steps. I love how Taylor made the best of a little flaw and added felt octo eyes that became an adorable design element! Click here for this oceanically perfect Octopus Onesie Costume tutorial.
Touchdown Football Costume
Here’s a super-quick, touchdown ready costume you can make for Halloween and the whole football season. Just two simple elements and the stress-free instructions Rachel provided on her Lines Across blog are all you need. If you can’t find a brown onesie, you can easily score by dyeing a white onesie with commonly available Rit Dye. You’ll use white felt for the football “stitches”, then outline stitch the edges on your sewing machine to keep them secure. Coats and Clark Button and Craft thread would be perfect for bold stitches! Click here for Rachel’s tutorial and dress your baby for maximum ball game cheer!
Honestly, babies are so fabulously wonderful, you could probably skip the costume, right?! But, aren’t these brilliantly perfect for the precious wee ones in our lives? Onesie Costumes are rewarding, fun and quick to make. Think about giving one as a shower or holiday gift or offering to help a busy new mommy who’s short on time. You’ll enjoy using your magic sewing powers to make a mom and baby giggle and grin!
