Purple Re-Purpose

Two big trends in one!! Purple has been proclaimed “the ” color for fall (dare I say ‘the new black’?). Re-purposing garments and fabrics into something new is a “green” trend.

At the Sewing Expo in Novi, MI, Barb was one of the great volunteers who worked in the Reconstruction Zone. All of the volunteers were challenged to create a vest in purple to wear while they worked at the show. Barb took the challenge one step further and created her vest out of old jeans in keeping with the spirit of the Reconstruction Zone.

Barb took x pairs of jeans–some hers and some her husbands and dyed them purple. She cut the jeans apart and used the fabric to create the vest with collar and lapels using xxxxpattern.

The rosettes on her lapel are actually the zippers that she ripped out of the jeans. In keeping with re-purposing, she felted an old wool sweater and attached strips of it to the zipper tape.

The side pockets were taken right off of the jeans and topstitched to the vest with Dual Duty XP general purpose thread.
